There is already default anti-virus for Windows OS, and 3rd party for macOS. We will focus on Windows 10 Defenders for its anti-virus. All Windows 10 systems come with Microsoft Defender installed. Let discuss on Windows Defender
Windows 10 Defender
- To access the Windows Defender setting, locate the security dashboard by entering security into search bar located in the taskbar at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
- Click Windows Security and then click Virus & Threat Protection to open Microsoft Defender settings for antivirus protection.
- First, you can run manual scan using Quick Scan Option.
- There are other than quick scan, full scan option inspects whole entire operating system.
- It takes long time and have a comprehensive report.
- Windows Defender Offline scan is essentially a boot sector scanning option.
Virus & Threat Protection
- When use Virus & Threat Protection dialog, there is a Protection History option.
- This shows a list of all the threats that Microsoft Defender has detected and did to neutralize them.
- Additional options below Defender Settings determine real time protection which stops malware from installing
- It provides cloud-based heuristic resources as well as a signature-based syste,.
- By default, it will automatically update its list of signatures and make sure these are up-to-date.
- You an manually check for updates by clicking Check for Update
Ransomware Protection
- Finally setting is to check for ransomware protection.
- To guard against ransomware, Microsoft defender controls access to folders and provides backups using certain cloud platforms.
- In these settings, you can see which files are protected and modify some of the protection settings. Keep in mind that Microsoft defender isn’t foolproof,
- Keep regular backup on an external hard disk or cloud system separate from main storage, help to protect from locked ransomware.
